MONOCHORD THERAPY

"We trust that the magic of sound will contribute an ever greater measure to the relief of human suffering." Robert Assagioli, MD

IT HAS BEEN FOUND THAT MUSICAL VIBRATIONS MAKE THEIR IMPACT UPON THE ENTIRE BODY, BEING PICKED UP BY THE NERVES, SPINAL COLUMN, AND EVEN BY THE BONES.

We are constantly being vibrated on a cellular level by heard and unheard sound frequencies. Sound vibrations have a tremendous influence over human functionality as sound touches and influences our emotions like no other source of input or expression. Music affects the pulse, respiration, and blood pressure; but its deepest effects, and those from which most of its curative properties are derived, are mental and emotional. Sound therapy has been utilized in various cultures for thousands of years as a tool for maintaining overall health. Whether through the use of mantras as with the Hindus, the Icaros (medicine melodies) of various Indigenous peoples from Central and South America, or Pythagoras' use of interval and frequency.

LET YOUR AWARENESS TO THE PRESENT MOMENT GO FROM SMALL SPORADIC DROPS TO ONE LONG CONTINUOUS STREAM. LET THIS CONTINUOUS STREAM TAKE YOU INTO THE DEPTHS OF YOUR TRUE SELF.

Monochord Therapy brings you into the moment in which you exist. Often our mind pulls us in many directions, past, and future. The art of listening in this form of sound therapy is a point of strong reconnection to YOU. This is where present awareness builds, where transformation happens. Sound helps to facilitate shifts in our brainwave state by using entrainment. This same concept is utilized in meditation by regulating the breath, but with Monochord Therapy, it's the sound and vibration that influence the shift.

Monochord sessions are offered to fully clothed guests as they lie comfortably on a well-appointed therapy table. Placing the instrument directly on the body, the ambient rolling waves of sound lulls the mind into deep relaxation, while the subtle vibrations offer a gentle “massage” to the cellular tissues of the body. Because the Monochord is doing most of the physical work, contact is kept to an absolute minimum. The instrument quickly eases each recipient into a state of peace and well-being. Most will reach this state quite quickly, even during their first session; many fall completely asleep.

SOME OF THE ADDITIONAL BENEFITS OF MONOCHORD THERAPY CAN INCLUDE:

  • Ease of muscles tension

  • Slowing of respiration

  • Deep relaxation

  • Reduction of stress and anxiety

  • Lessening feelings of anger and fear

  • Increased feelings of happiness, joy, and tranquility

  • Ease of chronic pain and inflammation

  • Improvement of the human immune function

  • Lowering of heart rate and blood pressure

  • Stimulation of deeper sleep

  • Reduction in chronic fatigue syndrome and depression

  • Increased mental and emotional clarity

  • Support in working through past physical and emotional traumas

Those who experience a deep state of relaxation through Monochord Therapy often report a feeling of mental freshness that they carry with them after the session is over. Relaxation and meditative states of mind have also been shown to increase the threshold for emotional response, meaning they can help us manage our emotional reactions to outside influences. Like other kinds of meditation, this can help us be more internally aware while being more present in the moment and connected with our surroundings. (Note: regretfully, Monochord Therapy is not suitable for those with pacemakers.)

ABOUT OUR MONOCHORD

Gentle Earth is proud to use a 34-string Fühl den Ton Monochord Monlina from Germany. This beautiful instrument comes from master craftsman Ingo Böhme and was produced as a single piece with caring craftsmanship in his Klein-Jasedow shop in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern on the Baltic Sea. Fühl den Ton is motivated by the vision that sound becomes accepted worldwide as an intuitive source that can support the healing process of both people and the planet. Practitioner Note: In the United States, numerous providers of educational services in the field of sound therapy use the term “Certification” or "Licensed" in relation to their in-person and online course offerings. It is important to understand that “Certification” or "Licensed" implies a legal term, which requires a professional organization to register and be overseen by a State-Approved Professional Board of Ethics and Efficacy in their established field.

There are extraordinary hurdles to this reality. For instance, each state in which a therapeutic method is practiced must have a State-Approved Board of Certification and Oversight Board for the ethics and efficacy of practitioners in that organization. To date, this practitioner is not aware of any sound therapy courses or organizations that meet the legal requirements for “Certification" or "Licensing." It is, however, legal to offer a “Certificate of Training” for someone who has paid for and attended so many hours of training and what the content of that training was. However, this has no legal weight as to the certified efficacy as a practitioner nor obedience to a State-Approved Professional Board of Ethics.

In today's modern world, anyone can purchase instruments online or through local retail shops and label themselves a "Sound Healer." For a financial investment, one can take a short class foundationally designed to sell participants instruments. Regretfully, this does not entail actual academic learning, nor does it further the legitimacy, research, field study, or factual education in the field of Sound Therapy. As a practitioner, I join colleagues nationwide in continuing to improve the professional efficacy and ethics of this field through peer-reviewed published scientific studies while educating those that would seek my services.
