Singing Bowls 101

“The large metal bowl sits heavily in my hand. I strike the rim gently with a felt-tipped beater. A humming, singing sound envelopes me.

The deep, throbbing undertones gradually change into undulating overtones. I strike the bowl again, and then again and again.

The more I strike, the more the room in which I am sitting is filled with sound. The sound calms me.

I gradually lose an awareness of time and place. I am living in the sound and the sound is living in me.”  [Eva Rudy Jansen]

Sound has been utilized in various cultures for thousands of years as a tool for maintaining overall health.

Join Licensed Vibrational Sound Therapist Betty Gauthier for this multifaceted and interactive singing bowls workshop. Participants will learn the history of singing bowls; gain insight into bowls they may already own; the variations of how a bowl can be sung; care and treatment of bowls; and what to look for when buying a singing bowl for personal use. The workshop will also provide exposure to different types of bowls, cymatics, and an introduction to vibrational sound therapy. Guests are invited to bring their own personal singing bowl and mallet/striker to this workshop. This is not, however a requirement for participation.

We will be utilizing the studio floor for this offering. Please bring a zafu, thick cushion, or blanket for sitting. A limited supply of chairs will be available for those that need to sit off the floor. The studio doors will open 20 minutes prior, please plan to arrive early to allow time to check-in and get settled. Doors will close promptly at 2 PM so that we can begin the workshop on time.
